About GA ChapterWebsite The Prince of Wales Alumni Association, Georgia Chapter was formed in September 2003. At our first meeting in September 2003, our first Executive was elected by ten Prince Waleans who represented the initial members of the POWAA Georgia Chapter. The first President of the POWAA Georgia Chapter was Henry Shyllon who had previously served as President of the New Jersey Chapter. During the early years, our focus was on increasing membership to help with fundraising activities to support the Prince of Wales School. Our current primary fundraising activity is our Annual Thanksgiving Service held during Memorial Weekend in May. Since December 2006, we have been having an Annual Evening of Elegance Black Tie Dinner and Dance to raise funds for the school. The POWAA Georgia Chapter currently has 43 members of which 30 are active members. Our current President and Vice President are Samuel Atere-Roberts and Derick Williams respectively. The Georgia Chapter has taken the lead in some cases to work with other chapters on several major projects for the POW School including the following: - Setting up a Revolving Fund to pay the salaries of teachers during periods that the Government is slow in paying salaries
- Giving Annual Christmas Bonuses to all staff at the POW School including Teachers and Non-Teachers
- Developing and implementing a Solar Powered Computer Laboratory at the POW School
- Giving Scholarships to deserving students at the POW School.
Two members of the Georgia Chapter traveled to Freetown to participate in the installation and commissioning of the Solar Powered computer Center in June 2008. As a result of the formation of several Alumni Associations in Georgia, the POWAA Georgia Chapter is expanding its options for fundraising activities considering the competitive environment. In 2008, the POWAA Georgia held its first Golf Tournament and raised about $10,000. The plan is to make this an annual event. The Georgia Chapter hosted the Annual Global Princewalean Conference in May 2008 which was attended by representatives of most of the other chapters. One of the Action Items from that conference was the creation of this Global Princewalean Website. The POWAA Georgia Chapter encourages Princewaleans in the South Eastern part of the United States to become members of our Chapter. We look forward to welcoming new members to our chapter. Forward always. Regards Samuel Atere-Roberts President POWAA Georgia Chapter
